THERE’S something about a tree house that brings out the kid in everyone, igniting fantasies of Tarzan and Jane. Now, you can make it all reality at a new resort in Perak.
Based on a tree house concept, tucked amidst fruit orchards on the shores of Kinta River in Tanjung Rambutan, The Roots is the first tree house accommodation in the peninsula.
What’s great about staying in a tree house is that feeling of being close to Nature. The tree houses at The Roots are unique as tree trunks are part of the structure.
There are only four tree houses and these have a jacuzzi in the private balcony. There is also a two-bedroom chalet, furnished with a king-sized bed, two single beds and attached bathrooms.
Resort owners Bridget Hedderman and Peter Witzigmann started the resort with an emphasis on “eco-friendliness”. It was developed with minimum impact on the environment.
The owners work closely with local guides and nature reserves to ensure that activities offered to guests will benefit the local community and contribute to conservation efforts as well.
The resort, which opened in July, organises eco-field trips for tourists and locals including students. The trips run from three to 10 days and guests get to visit an Orang Asli settlement, plantations and rainforests. They can try caving, cooking Malay dishes and playing traditional games. Whether you are a supporter of nature conservation or not, it’s still a new experience going to sleep in a tree.

GETTING THERE
Take the North-South Expressway and use Exit 139 to go into the part of Ipoh leading to Tanjung Rambutan. Then drive along Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah Utara and Jalan Tambun, heading towards Tanjung Rambutan.
