Most gurus will teach you that the most important factor in bring targeted traffic to you site is by searching engine optimization (SEO). One key component of SEO techniques is to identify a niche keyword. The keyword must have high demand, high ppc and high advertiser competition.

Finding the profitable niche keywords

The most common methods of finding that keyword are using the free Google Adword Tool and Wordtracker.

Most gurus would not hold your hand and work with you step by step to help you to get that keyword. They would just teach you the techniques of finding profitable niche keywords, Knowing the techniques of finding profitable niche keywords do not guarantee that you will find one easily. Many newbies are unable to get through this step and ended up giving up. They are not to blame as even veteran bloggers face problems with this step.

Newbies Dilemma

If you are a newbie, getting that important profitable niche keyword could be a massive task and nightmare. You could run through thousands of keywords and may end with a few or none at all.

I have been through that stage before. I have managed to get a few niche keywords and start blogs. But those niche keywords are not generating enough targeted traffic give me a reasonable income. I am not implying that niche keywords do not bring in income. I do believe that it does as proven by many successful internet entrepreneurs. I am trying to say that this task is not easy at all.

I have created a personal blog with twcl99 as the domain name. There is no demand, ppc and advertiser competition for this keyword. However I managed to bring in more than 10,000 untargeted unique visitors a month to this blog. Initially I thought that I was lucky and it could just be a flash in a pan incidence. But I am surprised that the untargeted visitor traffic continues to flood in and it has been going on for the last three months. Here is the proof:

How did I do it?

Well as expected my personal blog did not generate much traffic when I started. I did many researches and observations on other high visitor traffic sites. I realized that most of those high visitor traffic sites have one very common trait. All of them have at least 200 pages indexed by the Google.

1. Get More Than 200 Indexed Pages
Could this be a key to getting visitor traffic? So I embarked on a mission to post many contents into my blog in order to achieve more than 200 indexed pages.

2. Finding Contents To Post
Having setting up that goal number 1 (above), I started to look for contents to post. As an individual how am I going to get that volume of content? I observed other sites and I realized that you could talk about daily happening and news or anything that are legal and post to your blog. The contents maybe not necessary be a long one. Even a short content will do.

3. Contents That People Searched For
I started posted many contents to my blog. At one time, I was posting about 3 to 4 contents a day to my blog. I could see my traffic volume gradually built up and finally double up. Well that went on and stayed at a constant traffic number a day. Then I analyzed the whole matter and decided that the contents that I post must be those that many people search for.

I started picking up articles and news from Google Trend, Google News and Yahoo Buzz for ideas on my contents. I read the articles or news to find out the details. I offered my comments and write new contents about the articles or news.

I pick up some keyword ideas from the articles or news for my new contents.

After a few weeks, my untargeted visitor traffic doubled, tripled and finally reached more than 10,000 a month. Below is a screen shot of my Awstat on 12-Sep-09.

The above method of getting untargeted visitor traffic is entirely mine. Some gurus or experts may not agree to what I wrote above. I am not trying to outsmart them in anyway but rather offer an alternative to people who need help. In my opinion, I think untargeted visitor traffic is also valuable. I believe because of the increased visitor traffic, my blog got Page Ranked (PR) 4 by Google after 4 months from creation date.

I believe every individual has his/her own uniqueness. You cannot be successful by coping what other people has done. You got to develop your own unique ways of making money online. Of course in order to do that, you need to acquire some basic knowledge of search engine optimization (seo) techniques and search engine marketing (sem) skills. If you have limited or no knowledge of these skills, you may have no other alternative than to go for good training course.

I am very pleased to announce that this blog has breached the 10,000 unique visitor mark on 30-August-2009. The final unique visitor count for the month of August 2009 is 10,770. And just in day one of September 2009, the blog recorded 748 (still running at the time of printing) unique visitor counts.

Well I would be lying if I tell you that I am not happy with the result. In fact, I did not expect the blog would cross the 10,000 unique visitor mark in a month so soon. The Alexa Traffic Ranking also dipped below 1,000,000 mark for the first time. Please see below.

Another good news is I just received my virgin payment of $152.93 from Google Adsense on 25-August-2009 for cut-off deadline 31-July-2009. Here is the payment report.

Furthermore, my total Adsense Income for the month of August 2009 is $63.90.

Going by the above trend, with your continued supports and god willing, I aim to breach 20,000 unique visitors mark in September 2009. Well that is a real challenge to for me to work harder.

I would be bluffing you if I tell you that I achieved the above result by luck or without doing anything. In fact I had invested some money in learning the SEO and SEM techniques and put in some efforts in order to achieve the above result.

If you are interested to know how I did it, I will be most happy to share my tips with you. Before proceeding further, I just like to make a point here that because some of the procedures are very technical and long winded, it is not practical to write all the details here.

Here is what I have done for the last 4 months summarized in 5 simple steps so that it would not bore you down.

1. Do not use free blog.
If you are serious in building your own online income, it is not advisable to use free blog. There is a limitation on free blog in term of search engine optimization and search engine marketing. I bought my blog domain name from www.namecheap.com. This site was recommended by my Guru and I have been using it since then as I would not want to waste any time or got into problem with untested domain vendor. So far, I am quite satisfied with namecheap.

2. Get a reliable hosting vendor
There are many hosting vendors around in the net. As I do not want to waste time researching for a good one, I just took my Guru’s recommendation to buy from www.hostgator.com. As it is now, I am quite satisfied with their services.

3. Optimize your blog setting
Once you got a blog hosted, the next step is to optimize the blog. Optimizing a blog is no easy tasks especially if you do not have any knowledge. The process of optimizing your blog is quite technical and a long winded process. It involves searching for niche keywords, configuring your blog setting, installing plugins and installing monetization program like Adsense. The free wordpress plugins that I used in my blog are Google Sitemap, Adsense Manager, Adsense Immediately, permalink, All in One SEO, Possible Related Recent Posts and Sociable.

It is not practical to write all the techniques and procedures here. If you are a newbie, my advice is to subscribe to a blogging course by proven Guru.

4. Posting contents
In search engine ranking, content is the king. You have to post quality and original contents into your blog in order to get ranked high by search engine. In this blog, I have posted more than 400 contents in order to get to his rank of PR4. But tell you something secretly here, not all my contents are original ! I am taking some risk in posting duplicate contents here but if you want to follow, do it at your own risk keep it a secret. He! He!.

The correct way is to post many original and quality contents into your blog. Regret to say that this is one process that you should do it and there is no shortcut.

5. Promote your blog.
The usual ways of promoting blogs are article submissions, content sharings, directory submissions, social networking, social bookmarking, link building, etc. Those blog promoting sites that I like to use are Ezinearticles.com, hubpages.com, digg.com, stumbleupon.com, twitter.com, facebook.com, delicious.com,socialmarker.com, etc. http://www.allsitecafe.com/submitter/submit.html is great for directory submission.

Usually most of these common methods are included in most blogging courses. However for more advance skills, you will need to subscribe to advance courses on the respective specific topics.

Promoting blog is a long term process which is performed during the life time of your blog. The procedures involved are very technical and it is not practical for me to write everything here. You are advised to subscribe for relevant courses to learn the full procedures.
