Real Madrid paid an initial £29.7 million, with the fee rising to £34.8 million to Lyon for Karim Benzema. Real Madrid have already signed Kaká, Cristiano Ronaldo and Raul Albiol (Valencia defender) raising their spending to above £184 million. Next to be on line are Xabi Alonso and Alaro Arbeloa both from Liverpool.
